Open Hiring fills jobs without judging applicants or asking any questions. It creates opportunities for those who have been kept out of the workforce. That includes women, men, people of color, people of all faiths and sexual orientations, immigrants and refugees, those living in poverty or who have spent time in prison, and anyone else who has faced barriers to employment. When organizations practice Open Hiring, they upend traditional hiring practices by shifting spending from screening people out to investment in support of employee success.

Our Open Hiring Model includes partnerships with community programs that provide employees with the services they need to succeed. Where traditional HR departments focus more narrowly on job requirements and performance indicators, we focus on the person. We help employees find ways to remove any obstacles to job success. That could mean anything from finding quality child care to accessing safe housing. We partner with each employee to define their career and life goals and then provide access to the supports and services they need to reach them.

Our guest will be Ann Marie Puente Director of the Open Hiring Center

Ann Marie Puente is a multidisciplinary professional, with backgrounds in political science, law, and strategic design. Prior to studying and working in the design industry in New York City and Germany, she worked as a litigation attorney in Florida and Washington D.C., in consumer protection and employment law, respectively.  Additionally, she has worked on various grassroots campaigns in Florida and in New Mexico, including as an attorney for the 2008 Obama Campaign on election administration law issues.  Currently, she is a graduate instructor at Parsons School of Design in New York City facilitating divergent thinking via the convergence of strategic design, public policy and business. She exercises her divergent thinking and practice as Director for The Center for Open Hiring at Greyston, a hybrid social enterprise working to disrupt traditional hiring practices and remove barriers to employment via their for-profit food manufacturing facility, Greyston Bakery, a key supplier to Ben & Jerry's ice cream, a Unilever entity.
