Lessons from Daoist Cultivation of Virtue for Contemporary Learning

Drs. Tom Culham and Jing Lin

October 21, 9:00 – 10:30 am PST

We invite you to an interactive presentation by Drs. Tom Culham and Jing Lin drawn from their recent book: "Daoist Cultivation of Qi and Virtues for Life, Wisdom, and Learning" which explores the Daoist philosophy of qi and virtue and enquires into their application as a technology to cultivate the good in individuals and society. The book draws on Daoist wisdom to propose new forms of education.

Jing Lin will discuss her personal experiences with Daoist practice and touch on how qi cultivation relies on the accumulation of virtues, leading to transformation of the body, mind and spirit. Daoist masters apply this technology to achieve extraordinary abilities and transcend physical limitations and achieve health, longevity, and even immortality.

Tom Culham will briefly discuss cultivation of qi and virtue as a technology in the Daoist paradigm, and how contemporary science supports such a paradigm. Participants will be provided an opportunity to engage in and reflect on a Daoist exercise.
