The MSR Flamekeepers Committee invites you to join the founders and early leaders of MSR for the second “MSR Big Questions Webinar.” In our first webinar on January 19th, each member of the Flamekeeper Committee presented a big question for the field of MSR and discussed it briefly. Now, we will be holding regular “MSR Big Questions Webinars.” In each session we will select one of the questions posed in the first webinar and will go much more in depth, allowing for greater participation.
The goal of this webinar series is not to provide definitive answers to the Big Questions but to provoke new ideas for MSR research, teaching, and practice.
November 14, 2019 - Big Question Webinar
Chris Laszlo, a member of the MSR Flamekeepers Committee and of the MSR Executive Board will lead this Big Question Webinar. Chris will facilitate a dialogue on two Big Questions: (1) How can business drive positive change and (2) What is the role of science in transforming business leaders at a spiritual level?
After a brief discussion of the question by Chris, we will open up the conversation for dialogue and interaction. We will also explore ways to keep the dialogue going between calls, especially through AOM Connect. The call will be recorded. This is a rough structure for the call:

Chris Laszlo is Professor of Organizational Behavior at Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management, where he researches and teaches flourishing enterprise. He is author of Quantum Leadership (2019), Flourishing Enterprise (2014), Embedded Sustainability (2011), and Sustainable Value (2008), all from Stanford University Press. In 2012, he was elected a “Top 100 Thought Leader in Trustworthy Business Behavior” by Trust Across AmericaTM. He is a member of the Academy of Management and Division Program Chair of the Management, Spirituality, and Religion (MSR) Interest Group at the Academy of Management. Having spent much of his childhood in the Swiss Alps, he developed early on a deep appreciation for nature. He is a nature enthusiast, distance runner, and soulmate to Lakshmi with whom he has two daughters Jenna and Ishana.

In December, the next Big Question webinar will be hosted by Jerry Biberman, co-founder of MSR and co-founder of the Journal of Management, Spirituality and Religion. Jerry’s Big Question is:
“How do our own preconceptions and biases (both positive and negative) influence our choice of research questions that we ask and the ways in which we ask them? Is there a dark side that we want to avoid falling in to, and, if so, how (what practices, teaching research methods, etc.) can we use to avoid being ‘seduced by the dark side.’”

The Purpose of the Flamekeeper Committee:
In 2016, at the invitation of Jim Stoner, the Chair of the Management, Spirituality and Religion (MSR) Interest Group, Judi Neal created the MSR Flamekeepers Committee. The purpose of the Flamekeepers Committee is to recognize and honor long-time members of the MSR Special Interest Group who have made significant contributions to the science and practice of management, spirituality and religion, and to the leadership of MSR. The Flamekeepers Committee also provides opportunities for deep relational connection among the MSR elders, in support of the founding vision of MSR. Members of the Flamekeepers Committee include:
