Dear MSR Members,

If you will be coming to this year's Academy of Management meeting in Atlanta, please consider coming to MSR's fourth annual retreat. To assist Len Tischler and me in planning the retreat, please email Len at tischlerl1@scranton.edu or me at bibermang1@scranton.edu this month (the sooner the better) if you are planning to attend the retreat. Please also let us know if you would be willing to lead a session or exercise during the retreat. Details about the retreat follow:

For the past three years MSR has held a retreat for the two days following the Academy of Management meeting. We will have a retreat again this year. This year's retreat will be Wednesday, Aug 16 to Friday, Aug 18 at Simpsonwood Conference Center near Atlanta. We want to encourage you to attend the retreat and suggest that you build it into your Academy travel arrangements.

The retreat seeks to create a reflective space for participants; it offers opportunities to renew our personal commitments to what we find meaningful in life; it offers a chance to share insights and laughter with colleagues. If you are thinking, "I don't have time right now," you are who we invite. If you have personal reflective practices and also find energy through reflecting with others, you are who we invite. If you want to renew your professional self through personal spirit, you are who we invite. Spouses and friends are also most welcome

Last year the retreat was attended by about 25 people. It was held at a quiet Catholic retreat center in the coastal mountains of Hawaii with a beautiful view of the ocean. The sessions were led by participants and were derived from both Eastern and Western spiritual/religious traditions. This year the sessions will also be led by participants.

LOCATION: This year our retreat will be at Simpsonwood, a Methodist conference center, just outside the Atlanta beltway. The center is in a wooded area with 3 miles of trails through woods and alongside the Chattahoochee River. It is about a 45-60 minute drive from both downtown Atlanta (site of the Academy conference) and the Atlanta airport. We will try to arrange group rides to the retreat and from the retreat to the airport. If you want to look up the conference center, you can go to www.simpsonwood.org.

DATES: The retreat will be held from Wednesday, August 16, about 2pm, to Friday, August 18, about 1pm. (Note: The Academy of Management conference ends about noon on Wednesday, August 16th.)

COST: The cost will be $260 for a single room, $180 each for a double room, $160 each for a triple. The cost includes food and all other costs except transportation. If you want us to arrange transportation, there will be an extra $65 for both trips.

PARTICIPATION and LEADERSHIP: If you have an exercise, process, meditation, etc. that you would like to lead or run at the retreat, please let us know. If you would be willing to take a leadership role at the retreat also let us know. We need both kinds of volunteers.

REGISTRATION: Please register by emailing Len Tischler at len.tischler@scranton.edu. We are requesting firm reservations and deposits of $100 by April 15, 2006. Full payment will be required by May 15, 2006. This is an official activity of MSR and is potentially eligible as a reimbursement from your institutions or, if not reimbursed, may be potentially deductible for those who itemize. See Registration Form below for refund policies.

    Hi Jerry,

I just want to echo the opportunity this retreat is...

For those who want to reconnect with who they really are/what's really important to them,
this is a great way to RESET and RECHARGE your energy for the new academic year in the Fall.

This event was life-changing for me last year. After finishing my first year of doctoral studies, I went to the retreat in Hawaii, and became aware of the stress and pressure of performance and socialization that I allowed myself to become engulfed in, and wasn't even aware of.

After the first 24 hours of meditative/visualization/reflective exercises, I began to relax and get grounded again. To this day, I imagine that feeling I felt at the end of retreat as my set point,
and have made a commitment to attend a 2-day retreat like this every 6 months to help me live an authentic life. and I've got MSR's every August!

As a result, I've actually enjoyed my second year of doctoral studies, and learned to stay true to who I am with my research choices and teaching/coaching practices throughout the year.
Thanks to all who made last year's event such a success and meaningful experience!!

**Register now for the MSR Retreat!**

We will continue to take registrations until rooms are full...

    *******************************

Each year, the Management Spirituality & Religion group sponsors a retreat that begins on the Wednesday afternoon that the AOM conference ends, and continues through Friday afternoon (Aug 8-10, 2007 this year).

The retreat seeks to create a reflective space to renew personal commitments to what is most important and meaningful in your life. It consists of a variety of reflective exercises and healing modalities offered by those who attend the retreat as well as some local practitioners.

It is the perfect time for reflection and renewal before a new academic year begins, to experience and try out a variety of meditative techniques, and to connect with people around the world who incorporate such practices into their daily lives, teaching, and research.

If you are thinking, "I don't have time right now," it is you we most invite. Spouses and friends are also welcome.

This year the retreat will be held at Pendle Hill, a Quaker center located on 23 wooded acres just outside of Philadelphia, and of course the MSR retreat welcomes people of all religious and spiritual beliefs.

So mark your calendar now for the MSR reflective retreat on August 8-10, 2007.

A registration form is attached-please complete the form to hold your space. This is an official activity of MSR and is potentially eligible as a reimbursement from your institutions or, if not reimbursed, may be potentially deductible for those who itemize. See registration form for refund policies.
