    Hi All

My wife has a Ph.D. in Victorian Literature and a few Christmases ago, she insisted that she, my son, and I sit down and read Dickens'
"A Christmas Carol." Having seen the Disney version with Mickey and Pluto and probably eight bazillion other versions of it in various media, I did not look forward to this. However, as we read it I was pleasantly surprised to realize that the original was actually wonderfully written (I don't know why I was surprised that Dickens was a good writer, but I was), that the treacle that the other versions of it led me to expect was not in the original, and that it was a moving story about business, spirituality and ethics. Much of what made it moving necessarily gets cut out of the versions we get on TV and such. I've often toyed with the idea of teaching a course on business and literature and I resolved at that point that if I ever do teach a course, I'd include this story. Now I realize that suggesting that one read the original "A Christmas Carol" at this time of year is far from an original idea, but I thought it would have a special meaning for those of us interested in management, spirituality and religion.
