Hi all,

I thought that the members of the MSR listserve would be interested in this article in today's NY Times. The link is:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/14/science/15prize.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

The opening text is as follows: Philosopher Wins Templeton Prize for Spiritual Matters

"A Canadian philosopher who believes that spirituality is an essential part of the study of philosophy and the social sciences has won the $1.5 million Templeton Prize for advancement and research of spiritual matters. The recipient, Charles Taylor, 75, is a professor of law and philosophy at Northwestern University in Illinois and professor emeritus at McGill University in Montreal. Professor Taylor has written extensively on the sense of self and how it is defined by morals and what one considers good. People operate in the register of spiritual issues, he said, and to separate those from the humanities and social sciences leads to flawed conclusions."

Especially with the application of Taylor's comments to the social sciences as well as philosophy, this would seem to be an encouraging statement of support for the endeavors of MSR research (as if we really needed it, but it's sometimes nice to see that others are of similar mind).
