Bridging Sunday and Monday
Making Christian Faith Really Matter in Business
A One Day Conference*

The growing work and faith movement is an indication that Christians are taking their faith more seriously in their daily business lives. Often such discussions start with sharing faith and being a good example. This is a great start. But making faith real every day means applying biblical wisdom to the daily practices of business in areas such as:
· Finance and Accounting
· Marketing and Advertising
· Technology
· Management
· Leadership
· Entrepreneurship
· Globalization and Outsourcing
· Human Resources
· Strategy
· Corporate Social Responsibility
Our goal is to bring together academics and practitioners to explore many of these topics. We are lining up a number of senior Christian business executives to participate in the discussions. Selected papers will become a part of a book that we hope to publish for use by Christian universities and practitioners. Thus in addition to bridging the gap between Sunday and Monday, we intend to bridge the gap between the workplace and the academy.
We invite two kinds of proposals.
1. Formal papers addressing faith application to these or other related business activities. Papers should address how biblical wisdom informs the particular practice, but also how this practice can be taken into a secular marketplace.
Please submit a two page "indication of interest" response by July 9, 2007 to Al Erisman (director, Center for Integrity in Business, SPU) aerisman@spu.edu. This should include area of impact, general argument, and a brief bio. Requests for final papers will be made by July 16. A final ten page paper will be due September 15 for those selected.
2. Informal discussions addressing the practical experience of being a Christian in the marketplace, and dealing with particular issues in one of the topic areas.
Please submit a one page bio and description of the topic you want to address, by July 9, 2007 to Al Erisman, aerisman@spu.edu. We will include selected 10 minute presentations as a part of the discussion of the particular topic. No formal paper will be required, but notes from the discussion will be included in the final record of the conference. Notification of acceptance will be sent by July 23, 2007.
The conference will also include keynote addresses on the broad subject of Christians in business from both an academic and practitioner perspective. It will be held on the campus of Seattle Pacific University. Details about housing, transportation, etc. will be available this summer.
*This one day conference precedes the annual Christian Business Faculty Association (CBFA) meeting in Seattle October 5-7. Those submitting papers to the CBFA conference and desiring to make a brief presentation on their paper at this conference are invited to submit a proposal for informal discussion.
