12th INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON TEAM WORKING (IWOT12)
10-12 September, 2008 Aston Business School, Birmingham, UK
ANNOUNCEMENT and CALL FOR PAPERS
The 12th International Workshop on Team working (IWOT) will be held at Aston Business School, Birmingham, UK from 10-12 September 2008. As with previous IWOTs, the workshop will feature top international scholars and experts on team working as well as presentations by many academics with interests in how teams work in organisations.
WORKSHOP FOCUS AND THEMES
Team-based working is increasingly being seen by organisations as the best way to utilise the resources and skills of their employees. Research on team working is increasingly relevant to ensure organisations make the best use of the knowledge available.
This workshop will focus on all aspects of team working in organisations, and will include research from a variety of perspectives, disciplinary backgrounds and geographical areas. It will cover all aspects of team working but we would particularly welcome papers on:
- Creativity in teams
- Managing team diversity
- Intercultural team working
- Building team-based organisations
- Teams and well-being
- Team processes
KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Cary Cooper, Lancaster University
Daan Van Knippenberg, Erasmus University, Netherlands
Michael West, Aston Business School
NATURE OF THE WORKSHOP
The workshop will take place over three days and we hope to attract around 100 participants. Papers presented will include both oral presentations and posters. Oral presentations will take place in parallel sessions organised around similar sub-themes. Each presenter will be allocated 30 minutes for paper presentation and discussion.
CREATIVE TEAMS WORKSHOP WITH ACTORS
In addition to these presentations, some sessions will investigate the nature of team working in a more participative way. Led by an actor, will be three practical workshops exploring the key skills, processes and strategies used in arts organisations (such as the theatre or in orchestras) to achieve outstanding team performance. These workshops will provide inspiring insights into team dynamics, translating the significance of team working in selected areas to all business and organisational settings.
SUBMISSION OF PAPERS
Abstracts of papers (750 words) should be submitted by 31 March 2008 to p.a.clark@aston.ac.uk. After review each author will be notified about the acceptance of the submitted abstract by 1st May 2008. Full papers must be submitted before 1 August 2008 to p.a.clark@aston.ac.uk.
PUBLICATION OF PAPERS
We hope that selected papers will be published in a special issue of an academic journal. All full papers accepted will be published in the conference proceedings.
PRACTICALITIES
The 2008 workshop will take place at Aston Business School, Aston University in Birmingham (UK). Aston is considered one of the UK's leading business schools, having been ranked 2nd in the UK and 12th in Europe by the Financial Times in 2007. IWOT will partly be held in its new Nelson Building, opened in 2006 to provide a wonderful environment for learning and research, as well as outstanding conference facilities.
Birmingham is the second largest city in the UK with a population of over 1 million and is reported to have more canals than the city of Venice! Being situated in the heart of England it is easily accessible by road, train or plane. Britain's most ethnically diverse city, it has been transformed over the past 20 years with fantastic new developments including Symphony Hall, the Bullring Shopping Centre and internationally renowned restaurants.
The workshop will commence with lunch on 10 September and will conclude on 12 September around 1 pm. For more details see www.abs.aston.ac.uk/newweb/research/iwot.asp.
