    Call for chapter proposals.

    Inner Peace and Global Vision

The Influence of Tibetan Buddhism on Leadership and Organizations
    (Information Age Publishing, 2011)

Editor:         Kathryn Goldman Schuyler, Alliant International University, San Francisco

Call for chapter proposals.  Submission due December 29, 2009
This volume in applied scholarship will contribute to an understanding of the importance and implications of Tibetan Buddhism and the Tibetan diaspora for thinking about leadership and organizations across the social sciences.  It is the second in a series intended to be an authoritative and comprehensive series in the field, entitled Advances in Workplace Spirituality: Theory, Research and Application and edited by Louis W. (Jody) Fry.

The book will describe underlying principles of Tibetan Buddhism that are relevant to leadership in the 21st century, include research on leaders who are practicing Buddhists, and describe the main global organizations and their evolution.  It aims to be accessible to all who are interested in what it is about Tibetan Buddhism that is important for leadership in the west and how Tibetan Buddhism is evolving organizations that enable it to thrive throughout the world, while in exile.

I seek chapters on all aspects of this topic, particularly from those who have done empirical research (all methodologies welcomed).  I am particularly interested in chapters that address the influence or impact of Tibetan Buddhist leaders or practice in the workplace and in changing people's lives.  I also seek chapters discussing leaders whose approach to leadership and effectiveness have been influenced by this set of practices.  The pieces on people whose lives are changed may or may not be Buddhist – ideally many will not be.  The intent is not to make people Buddhists, but to enable them to live well and appreciate the complex interconnectedness of actions, in the context of organizational change and leadership.  Organizations may be businesses or may be NGOs or other not-for-profit organizations.  Chapters should be 6000 – 7000 words. Shorter vignettes about changing lives will be included that range in length from 1200 – 3000 words.   Complete chapters will be expected to include a critical review of relevant literature, but the vignettes do not need to.

Please send chapter proposals of 300 – 500 words, including a working title, the intent of the chapter, and what type of study has been completed or is in process.  Include brief biographies of you and your coauthors, including terminal degrees, current affiliation, related publications, and contact information including office, mobile, email, and your web site (if you have one).  Send your proposal to Kathryn Goldman Schuyler kgschuyler@alliant.edu.  If you have questions or wish to discuss an idea, please contact me as well.

    Schedule:

Chapter proposals due: December 29, 2009.
Chapter overview due: February 15, 2010 (2-4 pages).
Chapter drafts due:  June 1, 2010.
Editorial review of chapter drafts completed: July 15, 2010.
Final revision of chapter due: August 15, 2010.
    Anticipated publication date: Spring 2011.
