An email was recently posted to the OBTS listserve that brought an interesting project to my attention. The OB Division has a podcast project. It is at the OB Division website at www.obweb.org. It looks like the kind of thing we might want to consider. Although I don't have the time to organize a podcast project, I thought I'd just throw out the idea for general consideration. One relatively painless way to begin something like this might be to make recordings of MSR presentations at AoM and make them available via podcasts. Or we could even ask people who make presentations if they would like to submit recordings they make themselves.

I think that Don has a good idea. I'm not sure that
recording our AOM conferences would be the best place to
start--some of our presentations really need slides to
accompany the stats...how about interviews of MSR
    researchers? panel discussions?

    Hi MSR-List Members, dear Don,

I think a podcast (audio or video) is a great idea that links the topic
of MSR to new media. For me, this implies an RSS Feed with news up to
date, a full database of all spirituality related articles, books, book
sections, and internet links that can be accessed as bibtex format.
Possibly with abstracts to read and pdf-links to download. This implies
also the announcment of new conferences and a network for authors and
coauthorships. And this implies the announcement of up to date special
calls for journal sections and MSR Newsletter call and so on. What about
    polls and pictures and ...

Easily you can read in my enthusiastic ideas that, for me, this implies
a full revision of the homepage of the MSR Project that I have seen all
the time. But possibly I accesed only old versions that have not been
deleted?? There are two websites that do not look the same
    (http://group.aomonline.org/msr/ and
http://www.theglobalsilkroad.com/AOMSpirit.htm) were the last one has an
update in 2003. Are there any sites I do not know or would it be a great
idea to form a project-group in the MSR that starts up a new
homepage-design and content (possibly with something like joomla to have
    multiple content editors)?

Regards from a ph.d. student close to the final lecture with a research
    topic in business and shamanism.

There are already a few resources online that fit this bill...

    And
    Speaking of Faith

I think that simple and relatively painless is the way to go.

    1. Start by asking everyone on the MSR program if they'd like to make an mp3 recording of what they intend to say in their presentation. If they say yes, have them email the recording to the MSR webmaster who could slap them up on the website with relative ease.

    2. If some MSR members have some energy and a laptop with a built in sound recording program (almost all laptops have them these days), they could make themselves available at some pre-announced spot and time at the AoM meeting and presenters could visit these intrepid recorders. The recording folk could ask a few questions (So, what is the essence of your paper? Could you elaborate on that?), get the presenters (or panel discussants) to talk for 5 - 10 minutes and wind up with a collection of recordings that could be easily slapped up on the website.

I see Marc R. has made many other suggestions, including an RSS Feed. If people have the time and energy to do things like this, that's great, but I think a small wins approach might be more likely to get the ball rolling.

There are companies who record conferences and provide the slides as well. The opportunity is to sell the "Gold CD" of the conference proceedings at registration for a discount or at the conference for a higher price.

I attend a conference in Reno for the Institute of Management Consultants, and they do this annually. If there is interest, I will get the name of the company with contact info

    Warm regards,

Don, I think that is an excellent suggestion.  I would like to see it widely adopted at professional meetings.  Small, handheld, self-contained digital recorders are now offered by many manufacturers that make it easy to produce an MP3 file of someone talking.  I like the simplicity of it:  Just download the file and easily play it using any software (such as Windows Media Player) that plays MP3 files.
