2009 Roundtables... Evangelical Christians, MSR

As one who has attended the Academy meeting gatherings of the Christian Management Scholars since 2001 and is a JMSR editorial board member, I can't say that I've seen MSR be unfriendly toward evangelicals.  I suspect that a big part of why there isn't more involvement in MSR from this group is that most have research interests in other areas that consume most of their time and energy.  There's only so much time and space to go around at the Academy meetings, and developing a new interest that requires integrating discipline-based research and tenets of the faith takes some time (I've only done it once myself). Speaking for myself, leadership in another division had taken up so much of my conference time for the last few years that it didn't leave much time to do much else at the meetings.

Regarding the position of developing groups of management scholars of faiths other than Christians, the folks I know that attend the CMS gatherings would encourage those of other faiths to create their own groups.  Best regards, Ben

    > I think the operative word here is "scholarship." On that I couldn't agree more. There has been a dearth of paper submissions and active participation from scholars that want to do research in MSR's domain who represent areas such as the psychology and philosophy of religion and schools of theology .

    > However, as one who has been active in MSR since 2002, I don't have any sense of exclusion or neglect of religious scholarship or religious scholars. I do believe though that MSR has been very careful and overt about not wanting to be a forum for promoting religious political agendas, doctrine, or proselytization.

    > So my invitation is for those of you who desire to be active in this arena to come to our MSR sessions in Chicago this August and be an advocate for this issue. I'm sure we'll embrace your enthusiasm and try to find a way to channel it to the betterment of MSR and our field.
