My name is Sharon Geraci, and I am in the PhD program at Capella University.  I am starting my dissertation, and I am seeking a visiting scholar to be a part of my dissertation committee.

My topic is spiritual leadership, and its effects on customer relationships.  Dr. Drumm McNaughton is my mentor, and he suggested that I contact the MSR group about finding someone that might be interested in this topic and joining our committee.

Capella uses a "strong chair" model. Therefore, I do anticipate somone's involvement to be approximately 12 hours over the next 18 months, primarily to read my mentor-approved proposal, dissertation, and for two conference calls. I anticipate someone's  first involvement would be in approximately 6-9 months.

This is a shortened version of the prosectus:

Topic.  This proposed study will examine how spiritual leadership affects the customer/client relationship.

Significance of Study.  This will be the first study that explores the effects of spiritual leadership and the loyalty, growth, and retention of customers/clients.

Review of the Literature.  So far, the review of the literature suggests organizations that practice spiritual leadership will have an effect on customer relationships.  However, according to Fairholm (1996), spiritual leadership enables employees to bring their "whole self" to work in mind, body, heart, and soul/spirit, which can lead to an increase in job performance. Additionally, Neck and Milliman (1994), Fry (2003), Fairholm (1996), Dent, Higgins, and Whaff (2005), Duchon and Plowman (2005), Fry and Slocum (2008),  and Marques (2006) have posited that spiritual leadership  can enhance employee performance, which in turn will benefit the organization's bottom line. This begs the question: Is there a relationship between spiritual leadership and customer/client loyalty?

    Sharon,

This sounds like a very interesting dissertation. I would be willing to
do it, having just served on a dissertation committee on spiritual
leadership for a Ph.D. graduate from Benedictine University.

    Best,
    Margaret Benefiel, Ph.D.
    MSR past chair
