  • 1.  Spirituality in the Workplace Careers

    Posted 06-25-2009 19:17
    Hi All,

I am a Grad Student at the California Institute of Human Science in the
Comparative Religion and Philosophy curriculum. As part of my degree I can
do Independent Study for 3/4 quarters. I am VERY interested in the
Workplace in Spirituality movement and have read numerous books on the
    subject.

However, does anyone on the list have suggestions of careers in this
    discipline? (besides a workplace chaplain)

I'd be interested to hear your ideas. :)

    Thanks in advance.

    Best,
    JoAnne V. Linsell

    Hi JoAnne,

You raise a very important question about careers. Here are some of the careers that I see people practicing:

    Human Resource Organizational Development specialist
    Career Development
    Change Consultant
    Executive Coach
Director of an academic center on spirituality in the workplace

I think most of us will also attest that we believe that just about any job can be done from a spiritual perspective.

    Warm Regards, Judith

    JoAnne,
In addition to Judy's list of positions, I'd say simply being a conscious manager at any level.   In addition to a spiritual person probably being a better worker, and in addition to teaching or helping others with their spirituality in the workplace, being a more conscious manager will have a great influence on those around you and on the workplace as a whole.  Spiritual people who lead and manage can have quite an impact.  You might enjoy reading Plato's "The Republic."  He discusses what a whole city-state (government, culture) would look like if it were led by an enlightened person (he called the person a "philosopher").
