When Knowledge Wins: Reflections on and Reactions to Adler and Harzing's (2009) Article
Monday, Aug 10 2009 7:30AM - 9:30AM at Sheraton Chicago in Michigan A and B
Were you delighted or disgruntled by the "When Knowledge Wins" article and/or the replies to it in AMLE's March issue? Did you find yourself wanting to engage the dialogue from those articles further? Are you thinking about writing your own dialogue in response to the articles? Do you have strong feelings about journal ranking, doing work that matters, or our true purpose as management faculty? If your answer to any of these questions is "yes," then you'll want to attend this special session at the Academy of Management meetings.
The workshop will start with the authors and decision editors discussing the development process for Adler and Harzing's article, followed by the essay authors describing their initial reactions to the article and the development of their essays. Interspersed throughout these conversations will be times of structured interactions between the panelists, with ample time included for questions and commentary from the audience. We plan to conclude the session with a discussion of potential "next steps" for scholars, institutions, and ranking systems as a result of the conversation that these articles generate.
Coffee and other breakfast beverages will be provided!
