Dear friends and colleagues,
I am delighted to announce that submissions are being accepted for the 37th annual OBTC: Teaching Conference for Management Educators, to be held June 16-19, 2010 at the University of New Mexico.
The theme for 2010 is:
Engaging Difference
New Mexico's richly varied landscapes and cultures lend themselves to considering how we encounter and engage with difference as management educators. We invite you to submit proposals that fit one or more of several sub-themes:
v Sessions that examine difference in classroom practices
v Sessions that help us consider the structuration of difference, and how context influences learning practices
v Sessions that explore how we can create connection, when real and perceived differences introduce distance between us
v Sessions that exemplify the roots of OBTC-experiential learning in action. These sessions can include topics such as,
ü Course design
ü Philosophy of experiential learning
ü Curriculum design
ü Integrating experiential learning activities into courses
ü Syllabus development
ü Teaching effectively with cases
ü Debriefing experiential exercises and cases
ü Linking philosophy of teaching & learning with pedagogy
ü Teaching basic management
v Sessions that help us work magic in our professional lives, and re-invigorate us in important ways
v And, certainly, we welcome other sessions too!
The subthemes and entire call for proposals are available on the website at www.obtc.org. You'll also find information about becoming a reviewer (please do!), past programs, and a suggested proposal template along with sample proposals. Please note that if you have substantial teaching note materials, they may be attached to the end of your proposal and will be included on the Proceedings Resource CD. Proposal Sample 2 has an example of this.
Founded in 1889, UNM is located along old Route 66 in Albuquerque. The campus has a contemporary and unique Pueblo revival architectural theme, and looks to the Sandia Mountains in the east and beyond the Rio Grande River to magnificent mesas in the west. All conference venues and the vibrant Nob Hill District are within 10 minutes walk from the residences.
We look forward to a fantastic conference together, including plenary talks by distinguished academics, a Thursday evening meal and ghost walk in the historic downtown district, and the traditional Friday night Talent Show and Awards Program once again emceed by Jerry Biberman. Preconference activities begin Sunday, June 13th and, among others, will include the Doctoral Institute.
Proposal Deadline is December 4, 2009
We look forward to seeing you in Albuquerque!
Kathy Lund Dean, Idaho State University (Program Coordinator, lundkath@isu.edu)
Ann Cunliffe, University of New Mexico (Site Coordinator, Cunliffe@mgt.unm.edu).
