Moments of Waking Up:
Embodiment, Reflection, and Action in Consulting, Teaching, and Research
Kathryn Goldman Schuyler, Alliant International University
Susan Skjei, Naropa University
Saturday, Aug 13 2011 10:45AM - 1:15PM at La Quinta Inn & Suites in Crockett West
How can we use our teaching, consulting, and research to help us wake up and be more effective? Although we may be well trained in our professional disciplines, the ability to access present moment awareness (waking up) can revitalize our work and bring new relevance and creativity to our work with others.
Many who practice mindfulness do so because they want both to wake up in some larger sense (not just be calm) and also to make a difference through their work. This session supports experiential exploration of these themes and will generate a collaborative research process. We will combine experiences and information about mindfulness and awareness practices as applied to our professional development with intimate conversations about our practice. Experiential portions will involve both "sitting" practice and the Feldenkrais Method of Awareness Through Movement. All who participate will be invited to join a collaborative research process over the coming year leading to an article on the impact of awareness practices on consulting, teaching, and research.
