  • 1.  Support needed for a Caucus Proposal

    Posted 03-07-2011 20:02

    Dear Fellow MSR members,

    Mark and I plan to submit a proposal for a caucus at the San Antonio meeting, and the submission must name five other people who support the caucus. Supporting it doesn't mean committing to attend (although that would be nice), after all, we don't know the schedule yet. If you would be willing to be named as a supporter, please email me to let me know. Subject to tweaking before submitting (deadline is March 8), here's the caucus description:

    Embodied Awareness and Leadership

    For over 2500 years the East has developed practices for 'embodied awareness' (moving mindfully and with intention).  These practices include hatha yoga (India), tai chi and qi gong (China) and aikido, zen, and sword (Japan).  More recently in the West we have seen the recent development of schoools of practice that are much younger and include:  Continuum, the Feldenkrais Method, and the Alexander Technique.

    This caucus is for people interested in applying the lessons from the practice of embodied awareness to the realm of management and leadership. The session topics may include mindfulness of the body, flow, intentional movement, transformative learning, body intelligence, enhancing creativity through movement, and leadership based on 'presencing' (see Scharmer, 2007).

    Questions to be discussed or considered are;
    1. How can research be conducted on embodied awareness?
    2. Why is this topic important for leaders?
    3. What are the paradigmatic considerations that embodied awareness raises?

    Thank you for your consideration of support.

    Best wishes

    Kay,

    I'm happy to support this caucus and have a great interest in it.  I have a syllabus (with a great bibliography) we created for a course in Somatics and Embodied Awareness at Fielding University that I can share if you are interested.
