Colleagues,
Below and attached details of a very interesting annual conference/workshop may be of interest, especially to UK-based listmembers - scott
Following the success of last year's MODEM conference, 'Emerging Themes in Leadership', at Methodist Church House in London, we return to Sarum College, set in the serene surroundings of Salisbury's Cathedral Close. This year's theme is 'Faith in the Future: Organization, Power and Trust' and the conference runs from 12 noon on Thursday 3 December to after lunch on Friday 4 December.
The conference brings together experts from the fields of leadership, management and ministry for stimulating conversations between church and business communities.
Highlights include:
- Keynote speakers: Professor Veronica Hope Hailey, Dean of the School of Management at the University of Bath, on 'Faith for the future: learning to trust' and Revd Dr Justin Lewis Anthony, Associate Dean of Students at Virginia Theological Seminary, on 'Faith in the future: power, authority and clerical confidence'.
- contributions from members of the MODEM community
- opportunities for discussion in groups
- the option of joining in the rhythm of worship at nearby Salisbury Cathedral
- for MODEM members, the AGM with a chance to share ideas with the Leadership Committee
As new forms of organising faith communities emerge, power and trust are major issues - including in churches where the importance of power is often denied and where trust can be fragile. This conference aims to help us all to understand more about faith in the future, to help churches to emerge in good shape, and to be ready to live and work trustingly in them.
The residential fee for MODEM members, which includes en-suite accommodation and all meals, is £110. The non-residential fee, which includes lunch and supper on the first day and lunch on the second day, is £55 (please see the flyer for details). Early Bird discount until 30 September: Residential £95; non-residential £45. In addition, there is a £10 discount on all fees for MODEM members, students and ministers-in-training.
Bookings: To reserve your place(s), please contact Alison Ogden at Sarum College, courses@sarum.ac.uk , telephone: +44 (0) 1722 424826. Again, please see the flyer for details.
