Dear MSR Colleagues,
Tomorrow, September 30th, is the last day to register at the Early Bird rate for the International Faith and Spirit at Work Conference.
This conference is co-sponsored by MSR and is in partnership with JMSR and the International Association for Management, Spirituality and Religion.
Dates: November 7-9, 2011
Place: Sam M. Walton College of Business, University of Arkansas
Cost: Early Bird academic rate: $395 – Register now and save $100
Includes: Awards dinner and ceremony on November 7th, continental breakfast, lunch, snacks on November 8th and 9th.
Why attend?
1. The theme: "Faith, Spirituality and Sustainability." Faith and spirituality are the core of any sustainability efforts, and a powerful common ground for those who may otherwise have very different worldviews. We will dialogue about practice, research and action throughout the conference.
2. Keynote speakers include John Tyson, Chairman of Tyson Foods, recipient of the 2007 International Spirit at Work Award, and founder of the Tyson Center for Faith and Spirituality in the Workplace; Don Soderquist, the retired COO of Walmart and founder of the Soderquist Center for Leadership and Ethics; Bill Pollard, former Chairman of the Board of ServiceMaster; Cindy Wigglesworth, CEO of Deep Change and founder of the Spiritual Intelligence Assessment; and Lynne Sedgmore, Executive Director of the 157 Group - Furthering Education and Skills Colleges in the United Kingdom and a senior fellow of the University of Surrey.
3. International Faith and Spirit at Work Awards Ceremony – honoring two organizations and one business leader for their inspiring integration of faith and spirituality in the workplace. All recipients will lead workshops on their best practices. Previous recipients of the award will also be at the conference and will offer updates on what they have learned from the business integration of faith and spirituality in the workplace.
4. Research presentations from leading researchers. Papers will be online to read prior to the conference, and sessions will focus on dialogue with researchers, business leaders, faith leaders, and academics. We will also have student involvement, so it is a wonderful opportunity to mentor future leaders and researchers.
5. Participation from faith and spiritual leaders from several traditions who are interested and involved in the intersection of faith and work.
6. The closing session is designed to invite collaboration on the development of organizational programs, research, writing, outreach, and whatever else participants want to take on.
In preparation for the conference, we have been doing monthly teleconferences with the keynote speakers. These are open and free to the public. Recordings are posted in our teleconference archive. You can find details on our Podcast page.
We also are encouraging dialogue about conference topics through LinkedIn and Facebook.
Many people find it hard to imagine that Arkansas is a beautiful place, so we invite you to our Conference Page to see the slide show of our area. Fayetteville is one of the top five places in the country to start a new business, and one of the top five places to retire. Imagine that!
The keynote speeches will be videotaped and we will have live streaming for a fee. We will also be recording breakout sessions as appropriate and those recordings will be available for purchase after the conference.
We have had a group of faith leaders from different traditions who serve as the Spiritual Support Team for the conference. They are Rabbi Jacob Adler, Geshe Dorjee – a Tibetan monk, and Dr. Steve Thomason – an Episcopal priest, who are keeping the conference in prayer and who will provide spiritual inspiration throughout the conference.
I hope that you can join us. This is going to be an amazing conference. Our conference team has prepared a list of sacred sites in different traditions that you may wish to visit prior to the conference or just after.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Warm Regards,
Judi Neal, Ph.D.
