On Behalf of Bruno Dyck:
MSR scholars will find the book "Management and the Gospel: Luke's Radical
Message for the First and Twenty-First Centuries" (Dyck 2013, Palgrave) of
great interest for several reasons. It provides a scholarly analysis of the
management teachings embedded in an important sacred text, as it examines
the biblical "Gospel of Luke" through a first-century lens and understanding
of management. The analysis shows that in Luke the management of
organizations is intrinsically related to ideas about spirituality,
salvation/emancipation, and other key themes of interest to contemporary MSR
scholars. In this way the book provides a welcome response to Max Weber who,
although he was agnostic, called for scholars to examine the teachings of
religious prophets because this was the most likely avenue for escaping the
"iron cage" associated with modern management. Implications for contemporary
theory are presented. For more information about the book, including a
sample chapter and book reviews, feel free to visit
