**Leading with Societal Mindfulness: How the Leader's Awareness Impacts Governance: Mindful Presence & Governance
Time: Sunday, Aug 9 2015 2:45PM - 4:15PM
Location: Vancouver Convention Centre in Room 224
This symposium will explore the vital role of mindfulness and presence in a leader's ability to govern. When a leader is able to shift the place from which he or she is operating-from a reactive, fear-based stance to one of attentive and open curiosity, new options and opportunities become available. This shift in perspective can enable leaders to reframe difficult issues, develop creative strategies, create new platforms for collaboration across institutions, transform business-and open governance. The panelists, who are internationally-respected leaders, educators, and consultants, have engaged in personal mindfulness practice for years, led or facilitated systemic change, and trained leaders to do so. They will not only discuss the interdependence of individual practice, systems change, and opening governance, but will also pause to open a space for presence to emerge and then evoke a dialogue in the room that will draw on both intellect and heart among those participating. Among the questions we will explore are: • How does the quality of my attention and connection with people impact how I perceive governance issues? • How do we move from individual mindfulness to societal mindfulness to transforming the economy? • What does this imply about how to develop wise and effective leaders? • How can such inner shifts among leaders generate change in the economy at local and global levels?

**Former Academy of Management Presidents Speak from the Heart and Soul about Global Sustainability
Time: Monday, Aug 10 2015 9:45AM - 11:15AM
Location: Pinnacle Vancouver Harbourfront Hotel, Cordova Ballroom
Please do not miss our annual MSR Plenary. Encourage others to participate in this too. No other event will be occurring within the MSR interest group at this time. This is the 3rd year of the plenary system at AOM.
This important session is designed to give the plenary speakers and members of the audience, some of whom are also former presidents of AOM, an opportunity to speak personally from the heart and soul about climate change and global unsustainability. Each speaker will speak for her or himself – not for AOM or any other organization as a whole. The speakers' short talks may also suggest possible solutions to the problems currently facing our own and other species as the capacity of the planet to support us becomes increasingly compromised. The session will be proactive and participatory, with all members of the audience having an opportunity to speak from the heart and soul at least in small groups and perhaps to everyone.
Come early to get a good seat and please bring other colleagues who are involved in MSR and other divisions.

**MSR Distinguished Guest Speaker: "The Absolute Necessity of Spirituality in Management: An Integrated System of Management (ISMA) Model"
Time: Monday, Aug 10 2015 11:30AM - 1:00PM
Location: Pinnacle Vancouver Harbourfront Hotel, Port of New York
Don't miss this opportunity to join in on this special MSR session with invited speaker Dr. J-Robert Ouimet. Dr. Quimet, in a return engagement at AOM, will present a leadership model developed over many years of managing the operation of Ouimet-Cordon Bleu, founded in 1933 by J-Rene Ouimet. In this model, the integration of spirituality and management in practice is emphasized as the key to creating sustainable economic and interpersonal value in an organization. Dr. Ouimet emphasizes the "necessity of starting at the top with shareholders and managers who are very interested, by profound human and spiritual values, in creating a beautiful climate of freedom" within the organization. Dr. Ouimet's leadership model centers around the 2015 AOM conference theme, Opening Governance, which asked us to consider opportunities to improve the "effectiveness and creativity of organizations by restructuring systems at the highest organizational levels." Holding spirituality at the highest organizational levels, Dr. Ouimet has created a leadership model that successfully balances productivity and profitability with strategies that concurrently promote human dignity, well-being and flourishing.
