  • 1.  Recognizing Journals that Publish Spirituality and Religion Articles

    Posted 10-29-2015 16:00
    Greetings,

In response to the new standards on research from AACSB my College is requiring us to provide more justification as to whether a published journal article should count toward our Accreditation’s standards. In addition to looking at various factors like citation rates, etc. my College will also take into consideration if other universities have approved or rated a journal.

For these reasons I would like to know if anyone can provide answers to these 2 questions on the 3 journals listed below:

    1. Are any of these journals listed below are recognized by your College (or on your College's approved list)?

    2. If yes, does your College list this journal in any type of rank preference (e.g. Tier 1, 2, or 3 or Tier A, B, C, etc.)?

The first 3 Journals I’m thinking of are as follows:

*Journal of Management, Spirituality & Religion

    *Psychology of Religion and Spirituality

    *Journal of Managerial Psychology

I would welcome any other thoughts about what other journals that should be considered (e.g. that tend to publish articles on religion/workplace spirituality) or any other views about how to recognize the value of journals that publish articles in this area.

I will summarize all of the responses and send them out to the MSR listserve.

    Thanks much for your consideration,

    Hi John,

The University of Phoenix Library recognizes the Psychology of Religion and Spirituality and the Journal of Managerial Psychology.  They do not rank them.

    Hello,
To your question, John, I can shed some light on the rankings of 2 of the 3 journals as Founding Editor of Journal of Management, Spirituality & Religion and former Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Managerial Psychology.

JMSR is ranked by the 2015 British Association of Business Schools quality list (1 out of 4, where 4 is the top ranking). It is also ranked by Scopus (an Elsevier classification that aims to rival ISI Thomson) for 2014 as 1 under the category of Religious Studies and 2 under the category of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management (where 1 is the top ranking).

JMP is ranked as 3 (out of 4) in the 2015 ABS list and with Scopus 2014: 1 (top rank) under OB & HRM, 2 - Social Psychology, 2 - Applied Psychology, 2 - Management Science. It is also ISI listed with a 2014 impact factor of 1.2

I am copying in the current Editors-in-Chief of both journals who may wish to add additional information.

    With best wishes

    Hello

The Journal of Business Ethics http://www.springer.com/social+sciences/applied+ethics/journal/10551 has a dedicated section called Religion and Spirituality. The journal is listed on the FT45 and is ranked A or A* on most lists (it is a 3 on the ABS).
