Spirituality and Religion: Multiple Perspectives on the Production of Meaning in Organizations
Call for proposals: Presenters Symposium
The 2016 AOM theme “Making Organizations Meaningful” offers the MSR guild a rich opportunity to showcase our research in faith, spirituality and religion in organizations. Ashmos and Duchon (2000) captures meaningfulness as an element of SAW: “the recognition that employees have an inner life that nourishes and is nourished by meaningful work that takes place in the context of community” (p. 137). Most other MSR lit recognizes individual meaning and meaningfulness of work in the conceptualization of SAW.
In addition to our paper, which will discuss chaplains in the workplace, we are seeking 2-3 other papers to form a presenter symposium around the overall topic of “Spirituality and Religion and the Production of Meaning in Organizations”. Papers can address the topic in a number of ways. For instance, what role does religious faith have in creating meaning at work? Or how do specific spiritual practices enrich the experience of work for employees? If you have a paper that would fit, please send an email to
jlorusso@princeton.edu<mailto:
jlorusso@princeton.edu> with an extended abstract of about 500 words by Monday December 21st to give us enough time to craft the symposium proposal.
