Now that we have the AOM Program Guide to explore, figure out where we need and then want to be, MSR would like to ask for volunteers to welcome new members at the following events. Because the Executive Committee will be otherwise busy on Thursday evening, 4 Aug., we would be particularly grateful for MSR members that might enjoy attending event 1, below: the New Member Welcome Reception. Ironically, the Friday MSR dinner runs at the same time as the Friday evening New Member Orientation, so should any MSR member be available for that, wonderful. The Quad is a way to meet new members or wandering not-new members during the Conference, so having MSR members sign up for these available hours is also a great good.
The sign-up process is easy enough, I just did the deed myself. Our thanks to Anne Wood for the user friendly AOM sign-up preparations, adapted below.
Volunteers needed for:
1. New Member Welcome Reception – Thursday, August 4th, 5:30 pm-7:30 pm, Sheraton Park Hotel, Tiffany Terrace, Tiffany Patio – An informal, come as you are welcome reception for new members that is outside of the formal program. We will once again sponsor this event as it's grown considerably over the last 2 years. We'll be inviting Division/Interest Group/Committee volunteers to join new members and first time attendees to help make that first in-person meeting connection. An RSVP will be required so we can plan for food & beverage; the room will be larger and the check in process streamlined. Here's the sign up link .
2. New Member Orientation & Quad –Kicks off Friday evening, August 5th, 5:30 pm-7:30 pm, Anaheim Convention Center, Exhibit Hall. Each Division/Interest Group/Committee will be provided with a designated table to be available for not only new members, but all members to connect with you. It will kick off, again, with the Exhibitor Opening Reception, and include a participation ice breaker game. It was a huge success in Vancouver, with over 1,000 folks in attendance, so we're doing it again!
The Quad – Will be open Saturday through Monday and we've added a NEW Member Resource Center, all located in the Exhibit Hall. This is our central gathering place where we'd love the help of any and all AOM volunteers to join us in welcomingnew members, to chat with current members, and foster connections that are vital to making membership in the Academy fulfilling and valuable. Instead of maintaining permanent tables for each Division, Interest Group and Committee for the duration of the Hall's opening hours, you are welcome to assign volunteers during the hours you decide make the most sense for you. We'll make sure a table is available. During other times, we will provide space for you to leave information about your Division, Interest Group, or Committee.
> Here is the sign up link for the Orientation and Quad you can share with others.
We will do our best to get some orientation materials to each of these events. Send an email to me if you have any MSR related questions or to Anne Wood for AOM-specific volunteer query.
Best,
Charlie Tackney
