Dear MSR Community - With sad hearts we are writing to tell you our dear friend and founding member, Andre Delbecq, died yesterday afternoon at 5:40pm of pancreatic cancer.

Of course no message could do justice to the impact Andre, his work, and his way of being in the world has had and will continue to have on so very many of us and how much we will miss not being able to look forward to being with him.

Please hold Mili, his wife, and his daughter Adrienne in your prayers and meditations.

    Ohh, what a sad news!

What a light of a person, gold of a heart and clarity of a mind Andre was and is.

As a member of the MSR Australian community, I send my condolences to Mili and Adrienne, all Andre's friends and colleagues - to all of you.

Personally, I am honoured to have known Andre.

    Sincerely

    Katya Todarello (Zhuravleva)

These are devastating news. Only a few weeks ago in Anaheim, Andre was actively involved in many sessions and looking forward to leading a special track in our forthcoming conference in Fayetteville.
Without Andre we are considerably poorer. Among the many notable figures that our community is blessed with, Andre was a towering giant. He will be sorely missed.

It is really sad. Andre was a very wise, humble and generous person. I remember sitting with him at wam meetings, he was always ready to chat. He personified the kind of leaders we need. We will miss him.

Very sad news. Andre was a truly admirable person exemplifying kindness and combining those with great wisdom and always care in discernment.  We will miss his presence not only in contact and MSR affairs but in just having him as part of this realm in which we find ourselves. May all who mourn his passing celebrate the memories of his presence.

I met Andre at my first MSR doctoral consortium. I learned so much from him then and even more during the subsequent years. He embodied love and compassion; his death is a great loss for so many. And, I know that his individual spirit-soul-energy continues, as does the wisdom and the lessons he taught. I send love and light to Mili, Adrienne, and his many close colleagues and friends.

    Dear David and Friends,

I wish to strongly second and support David's proposal. Andre was and is a role model for what the MSR community of scholars and teachers stands for on so many levels. Andre's acts of service and words of deep wisdom that have helped so many over the years should be celebrated with a yearly award to someone who has embodied the values and behavior carried by Andre's example.

I am deeply moved by the outpouring of positive thoughts and prayers for Andre's passing. He was an elder voice and leader in not just the MSR community but also Santa Clara University and the Community of Joseph. Let us continue the celebration of his life in a formal way.

So sad that such a wonderful man is gone, but happy for his life and for knowing him and that he did not suffer long with this final cancer. A truly beautiful man.... so kind, generous, and wise.
Stacie: hope you will post a photo on our Facebook page, where we can make comments that will remain visible, honoring him during this period that some traditions, like the one I practice, suggest that prayers and thoughts of him for the weeks following a passing are very important.

    Friends,

I can only echo the many heartfelt expressions of love for and appreciation of Andre. It was special for me to read everyone's many remembrances, as well as reflect on my own.

I have a proposal to put forward: I wonder if we might have or create an annual honor or prize named for Andre Delbecq as a way to keep his name alive and remembered in our guild?

    Warm regards,

    David

    David

So sad that such a wonderful man is gone, but happy for his life and for knowing him and that he did not suffer long with this final cancer. A truly beautiful man.... so kind, generous, and wise.

Stacie: hope you will post a photo on our Facebook page, where we can make comments that will remain visible, honoring him during this period that some traditions, like the one I practice, suggest that prayers and thoughts of him for the weeks following a passing are very important.

    Friends,

This is a wonderful way for us to continue remembering Andre. We might consider doing what the Practice Theme Committee has done and rename our Lifetime Award the Andre Delbecq Lifetime of Distinguished Service in MSR Award, or something comparable. We gave this award for the first time at the 2012 conference, awarding it to Andre. It seems appropriate for this most major award to be named in his honor, both as its first recipient and because of the heartfelt way that he touched so many of our lives, as well as the many seen and unseen ways he contributed to the development of MSR.

Background: the PTC had created this major award, which we have been giving only occasionally when the Executive Committee deemed someone worthy of such a major honor. Chris Argyris had been the initial recipient, and when he passed away, we renamed the award in his honor.

    Warmly,
    Kathryn

Yes, I think renaming our lifetime  achievement award in honor of Andre would be most fitting and appropriate. His loss is deeply felt, but his impact - both personally and professionally - for all who have known him is deeply embedded in all of our hearts.

I agree with David regarding creating an opportunity to recognize Andre's contribution to the life of MSR.  Kathryn's proposal would achieve this goal as an initial approach to recognizing those who have given themselves for the betterment of this community.

Andre was a person of great respect, with strength of character and much resolve.  He will be sorely missed.

    Dear All,

One possible approach to honor Andre would be an AOM pre-conference
session with former students and colleagues.

I attended a similar session in Philadelphia held by TIM for Paul
Bierly. It provided a vivid picture of both the man and his work (I met
Paul once but he was a mentor to one of my co-authors). The PDW chair
(who seems like he was skeptical about the session) later told me he was
    very moved.

I would be glad to put someone in touch with the organizer of that
session if you want to follow up.

    Dear David & Fellows,

The idea is worth appreciating and demands for practical implementation.

    Dear All,

One possible approach to honor Andre would be an AOM pre-conference session with former students and colleagues.

I attended a similar session in Philadelphia held by TIM for Paul Bierly. It provided a vivid picture of both the man and his work (I met Paul once but he was a mentor to one of my co-authors). The PDW chair (who seems like he was skeptical about the session) later told me he was very moved.

I would be glad to put someone in touch with the organizer of that session if you want to follow up.
