Subject: Info on workshops at IAMSR - and link to an amazing article
Dear MSR Community,
One of the features at the International Association of Management, Spirituality and Religion (IAMSR) conference in Fayetteville, Arkansas (May 18-20) is our Professional Development Workshop (PDW) Track. A PDW is a 60 or 90 minute interactive workshop focused on supporting professional development for faculty and practitioners. You will walk away with tools, skills, or models that you can use in your classroom, your workplace, or with your clients.
I want to highlight one workshop in particular, because there is required reading, and because of the profound nature of the topic. This is a PDW titled "Inner challenges of leadership in the face of uncertainty and complexity: Transcending the crucible of anxiety."
This workshop is being facilitated by Dr. Ricardo Levy, a Silicon Valley executive and entrepreneur whose career spans more than three decades of founding and building successful businesses. He was also a dear friend and colleague of our beloved Andre Delbecq. Even if you are not attending the IAMSR, I encourage you to read his article. The link is below.
Here is the workshop description:
Inner Challenges of Leadership in the Face of Uncertainty and Complexity: Transcending the Crucible of Anxiety
What makes us entrepreneurs is our consuming drive to bring new products to market to fulfill perceived needs. What makes us entrepreneurial leaders is our capacity to embrace the unknown and guide our organizations in times of difficulty and uncertainty, times that are often fraught with many complex structural, operational, and most important human elements. The passage through these complexities and the ability to see the best outcomes "on the other side" determines our ability to lead.
Nothing sharpens our awareness more than living through difficult times and examining what helped us succeed and where we failed. A recent experience has brought this into sharp focus for me. I have come to appreciate the need for full immersion into the cauldron of the unknown, and the need to find paths through the complexity to provide clarity for our colleagues and ourselves. I have likened this to immersion into a crucible of anxiety and its transformation. It taps into our deepest intellectual and emotional resources, and requires a true awakening of the spirit.
In this workshop we are going to examine the deep inner emotional and spiritual resources needed to capture the leadership moment, and the essential harmony that is needed between our core values, our life purpose, and our commitments if we are to be true to our leadership calling.
In preparation, please read the article on this website: https://ricardolevy.com/2017/04/02/dealing-with-uncertainty-from-the-crucible-of-anxiety-to-the-chalice-of-change-lessons-in-leadership/
