    > And Orneita Burton has generously volunteered her time during our off-site dinner event to help welcome AOM newcomers at the main welcome orientation session (while those at the MSR dinner party away...). Never too soon to be thanking her for this, seems to me.

After our evening at Meehan's Public House, Saturday starts off MSR professional development activities with these two sessions. Let's remember to announce these 8am events at Meehan's when the dinner ends, to encourage an early rise and shine.

Research on mindfulness, defined as open present moment attention and awareness, is surging within and beyond management science. Emerging evidence suggests that mindfulness helps explain and manage many fundamental aspects of workplace functioning (Good et al., 2016). Yet this growing evidence almost exclusively focuses on the individual, overlooking the many potential connections to team processes and functioning. This presents an opportunity, as teams remain the central social units of organizational life and an interface where mindfulness may offer significant influence. Teams continually face the threat of process losses undermining their collective performance, and mindfulness may be a practical management tool to address these issues. To address the potential integration and impacts of mindfulness within teams, this workshop will bring together mindfulness and teams scholars to explore this emerging research area. Participants will engage in an experiential learning exercise to develop skill in understanding the potential connections between mindfulness and teamwork, and then draw on this experience to incubate research and practice ideas at this interface.

The arts nourish the capacity to bring creativity and innovation to one's work, leadership -- and life. Music, poetry, dance, drama, painting and other forms of expression enrich the human experience from the most joyous to the most challenging times in our lives, helping us connect among ourselves and create community. Listening to the artist in oneself affects one's sensibilities and identity in ways that change everything. The conference theme invites us "to reflect on the many ways that interfaces separate and connect people and organizations – and to consider the consequences of those separations and interconnections." The arts are an interface to the sensate world, helping us to connect more deeply with ourselves and each other, particularly as we go through times of change. This salon brings musical, poetic, and art works to an open space for reflection, where the creators of the art and those present can contemplate how artistic creation and the deep experience of such creations influence what we see, notice, think, and decide to do subsequently. Our intent is to generate and explore experiences of these creations and the process of creating and to reflect on the implications for our work in teaching, research, facilitation, and consulting. The presenters bring art, science, scholarship, management, and leadership - and are people who move fluidly between roles as learners and teachers. The salon will be simultaneously thought-provoking and moving. We will engage the minds and also, we hope, touch the hearts of those who participate.
Contemplate how artistic creation and the deep experience of such creations influence what we see, notice, think, and decide to do subsequently in our work and lives!
