Hello MSR Community - a small group of scholars are looking for one or two people to join us in a PDW submission for the 2024 AOM. Specifically, we are looking for someone who is explicit in bringing spirituality into their teaching. We would particularly like to have non-Christian scholars represented to add to the diversity of our panel. If you are interested, please reach out to me at Stacie.Chappell@viu.ca

The following is a small excerpt from our 'very draft' submission - but gives you some idea of what we are attempting to explore in this PDW:

How is spirituality managed in business management classrooms? The idea would be to provoke discussions around how and why educators invoke (or don't) the idea of spirituality, what it means to them, and what/how we think about what happens in the minds of students. How are they filling up this idea with meanings and what does it mean for practice? What is the significance for equity/inclusion? Considered invited scholars from other disciplines to discuss the intersection of pedagogy, management, and spirituality.

    • Who are you ontologically when you teach spirituality in the classroom?

    • What is a value? What is a belief?

    • Different models of human behavior that do not see 'values' as a carried element of a human.

    • What are the implications of a class designed to help people clarify their spiritual values in order for them to be more effective as leaders in organizations.

    • Does it matter if we call it ethics, or spirituality? Maybe it's semantics. Or, perhaps, if I call ethics, spirituality, I am marginalizing everyone in my class that doesn't see it that way.

    • How does context shape the possibility of talking about spirituality?

    • What does it mean to bring spirituality to a classroom?

We are anticipating an interview format - so there would be minimal commitment to the preparation.
