Our Next Webinar:
The Artifacts of Spirituality – Orneita Burton
March 26, 2024, 2:00-3:30 pm ET
Dear Colleagues,
It is our pleasure to announce our next MSR Flamekeeper "Big Question Webinar." In the Academy of Management, spirituality and religion are often viewed through the same lens. Also, we don't normally think of human aspects of spirituality compared to the divine aspects of Spirituality. Therefore, in an academic field of study, what is an artifact of spirituality? What artifacts define spirituality as formed by people? How are they distinct from artifacts of Spirituality as defined in nature? How do these distinctions inform the need for research methods of discovery for both the social and natural sciences? What other divisions in AOM might be interested in this distinction?
During the first few minutes of this 90-minute Zoom call, Flamekeepers will share historical perspectives of spirituality from the beginnings of MSR. Participants will then be divided into interactive breakout sessions where attendees will brainstorm to develop a list of MSR artifacts related to spirituality. The call will then be opened up to all participants for discussion and concluding statements. The call will be recorded and posted to AOM Connect.

The Purpose of the Flamekeeper Committee:
In 2016, at the invitation of Jim Stoner, the Chair of the Management, Spirituality and Religion (MSR) Interest Group, Judi Neal created the MSR Flamekeepers Committee. The purpose of the Flamekeepers Committee is to recognize and honor long-time members of the MSR Special Interest Group who have made significant contributions to the science and practice of management, spirituality and religion, and to the leadership of MSR. The Flamekeepers Committee also provides opportunities for deep relational connection among the MSR elders, in support of the founding vision of MSR.
