Dear AOM MSR Colleagues,
MSR is holding a series of webinars throughout the academic year inviting a broad range of scholars to help advance the development of a research paradigm to investigate the impact of spirituality and religion on management.
Please join us on Thursday January 12, 2023, for 90 minutes at 8:30 am (Los Angeles); 10:30 am (Chicago); 11:30 am (New York); 10:00 pm (India); to participate in an exciting and enlightening conversation on Waking Up at Work: An Exploration of Action Research Methods in a Two-Phase Qualitative Journey
Join Zoom Meeting: https://miu-edu-online.zoom.us/s/6658694783
Action research involves research projects that intentionally have a tangible effect on the lives of the researchers and participants, in addition to generating knowledge. Such an approach to research is invaluable for our field. Dr. Kathryn Goldman Schuyler, Dr. Lorna Cortés, and Dr. Orit Wolberger have all published based on a 10-year qualitative project. We will speak about the research itself, covering what we did, why, how the methodology is valuable in our field-and address how professors interested in such topics can simultaneously enrich both their research and meditation practice while supporting students in doctoral research. See attached document for more details about the research.
Brief Biographies:
KATHRYN GOLDMAN SCHUYLER (Professor Emeritus) has published three books and many articles to suggest how generative mindfulness can contribute to healthy organization cultures and a healthy world. Through her years of meditation practice and her work as a graduate professor, somatic educator, and organizational consultant, she has explored the interdependence of personal awareness practice and action in the world. Dr Goldman Schuyler trained professionally with Moshe Feldenkrais and used her skills in body-based learning to create and lead a program for adults with severe neuromotor challenges for over 20 years. Her understanding and practice of meditation are supported by studies with masterful teachers including the Dalai Lama, Mingyur Rinpoche, and Roshi Joan Halifax. Kathryn is a sociologist, with a PhD from Columbia University, NY.
ORIT WOLBERGER is a program manager who has been working on designing, implementing, and facilitating people programs in technology companies and nonprofit clients based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Dr. Wolberger is interested in understanding the complex nature of change as a state of becoming and the ability to lead change gently. She holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Francisco. Her research work is focused on action research, processual theory, and the integration of contemplative practices in organizational development.
LORNA CORTÉS is an organizational consultant with both for-profit and non-profit organizations, focusing on leadership development and organizational culture. Dr. Cortés holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Francisco, where she studied on a Fulbright Grant.
