Morning MSR colleagues,
To kick off the Northumbria University "Meaning and Spirituality At Work" Research interest group 2022/23 seminar series, we are delighted to invite Professor Marjo Lips-Wiersma to present on her current work titled "Seeking or rejecting hope in these messy times: Does spirituality matter?"
Drawing on recent research on the role of hope in sustainability education as well as organizational sustainability practice, Marjo explores hope in relation to various contrasting concepts such as optimism, pragmatism or despair. She tentatively argues during times of great uncertainty spirituality and hope may help or hinder individual and collective level action.
Marjo is currently Professor of Ethics and Sustainability Leadership at the Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand. Her research on meaningful work/hope/wellbeing is used in a variety of community and commercial organisations around the world and she is chair of the board of the Map of Meaning International (https://www.themapofmeaning.org) which, through training and certifying practitioners, helps individuals and organisations to create and maintain meaningful work. She is a member of the University Sustainability Task force and the Professorial Representative for AUT Business School. Marjo has published in journals such as the Journal of Business Ethics, the Journal of Organizational Behavior, the Journal of Management Studies, the Leadership Quarterly, Group & Organization Management and the Journal of Management Inquiry and has been a member of several editorial boards. She has taught ethics, sustainability, responsible leadership and qualitative research methods at undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA levels.
Given time differences, the presentation will be held via MS Teams on 5th October at 9am UK BST. Thus, the timings will especially suit those in Europe, India, Asia, and Australasia, If you plan to attend and would like the TEAMS link, please contact myself (n.burton@northumbria.ac.uk)
We do hope you are able to join us. The session will be chaired by my colleague Dr Nadia Singh.
Take care -Dr Nicholas Burton, MSR Chair 2022-23
